Betty H. James, 83 of Sylvarena, MS passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Jasper General Nursing Home in Bay Springs, MS. She was born Sunday, December 3, 1939, in Sylvarena, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs 22 E 4th Avenue, Bay Springs, MS. Visitation from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Sylvarena Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 2:00PM on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Sylvarena Baptist Church in Sylvarena, MS.

Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery in Sylvarena, Mississippi. Bro. Rusty Stockman will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. 601-764-2181.

Betty was known for her sweet soul, her love for Christ and slow-pitch softball. She was a parent/grandparent who did not miss a single sporting event. She never wanted to draw attention to herself, but cared for and loved others her entire life. Betty was truly the epitome of a Christian lady. She will certainly be missed by many people and will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lace and Mabel Huckabee Hancock, brothers, Max Hancock, Charles Dee Hancock Sr., sister, Fay Stringer, niece, Angela Hollingsworth, great-niece, Ashley Hollingsworth, great-nephew, Paul Stringer Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Lex James; son, Terry James (Stephanie); daughter, Sonja James, grandchild, Sunni James, sisters, Rachel McCrory, Sue Brown (Paul), Barbara Pugh (John), brother, Joe Hancock (Diane), Sister in-laws, Pellie Hancock, and Janice Hancock; brother in-law, Bill H. Stringer; special great-great-nephew, Austin Hollingsworth and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Stacey Stringer, Craig Brown, Steve James, Bobby James, Skipper Pugh, and Adam Lillie.
