Billie Brewer Mathis, 84, of Bay Springs, MS died Monday, January 02, 2017 at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, MS. He was born Tuesday, August 02, 1932 in Bay Springs, MS.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 04, 2017 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs in Bay Springs. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 04, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs in Bay Springs, MS. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Louin, MS. John Dantzler and Bro. Jim Smith will officiate. Christopher Lovely, special music. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. (601)764-2181
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bay Springs and a Journeyman Pipe Fitter. He loved working with wood and playing his steel guitar and singing.
Billie placed his faith and trust in the Lord as his savior and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church in Bay Springs, MS. Later he was called into the ministry, pastoring numerous churches in MS and AL. He treasured reading and studying the word of God especially with his friends and family and was faithful at sharing the gospel of Christ, all the way to the last few days of his life. Billie has entered into the rest that was promised by the Lord he served.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Deavors Mathis and Dovie Mathis, 2 grandsons, Wayne Dantzler and Samuel Mathis, brother, Causey Mathis, sister, Onita Weldy, daughter-in-law, Melinda Mathis.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Mathis, son, Daniel Mathis (Susan), Jasper County, MS, daughter, Janice McCary (John), Millers Ferry, AL, daughter, Kathy Dantzler (John), Lucedale, MS, daughter, Sandra Smith (Jim), Henderson, TN, daughter, Dorothy Edwards (Phillip), Lucedale, MS, son, Alpha Mathis, Lucedale, MS, 18 grand children, 33 great-grand children, 2 great-great grand children.
Pallbearers will be Sean McCary, Tim McCary, Billie Dantzler, JP Edwards, Robert Spurlock, Tony Cayton, Andrew Edwards, Deavors Mathis, Allen Dantzler.
