Obituary

Bobbye R. Walters passed away at her farm outside of Laurel, MS in Jasper County on September 6, 2026. She was born on December 25, 1927, in Sylvarena, Mississippi, and lived a long life marked by devotion to her work, her church, and, above all, her family.

She graduated from Sylvarena High School and went on to build a strong and steady work life. Bobbye worked at A & P Grocery Store for 20 years and later she worked with Radiology Group of Laurel, MS, for 22 years as a Radiology Records Coordinator. Her years of service reflected her dependability and commitment, and she was known as someone who gave her best in all she did.

Faith was an important part of Bobbye’s life. In earlier years, she was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church of Laurel, and in later years she was a member of Moss First Baptist Church. She served on committees and remained involved in the life of her church communities. Outside of work and church, she found joy in gardening, cooking, traveling the world, and caring for her animals. Most especially, she treasured spending time with her loving family, who were at the center of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Walters; her sons, James Walters (Lana) and Tommy Walters (Kathy). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Barry Walters (Leslie), Mandy Terry, Melanie Davis (Matt), Jason Welborn (Mead), Stan Welborn (Kristie), and Mike Harris (Allison). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Dawson Walters (Karli), Sutton Walters, Maddux Walters, Ella Wesley Davis, Lucy Davis, Charlie Terry, Jaxon Zonah, Natalie Davis, Noah Davis, Will Welborn, Tao Welborn, Allie Kate Brewer, Anna Claire Harris, Virginia Harris, and Josie Harris. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Mims, and her sister, Linda Haden; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bobbye’s family was a source of deep pride and lasting happiness to her, and her love will remain with them always.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Walters; her mother, Wilma Mims; her brother, Joe Reid; and her grandchild, Casey Welborn.

A graveside service will be held on September 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Montrose Cemetery, 337 County Road 20, Louin, Mississippi 39338.

Serving as pallbearers are Tammy Walters, Barry Walters, Bob Walters, Dawson Walters, Maddux Walters, and Will Welborn.

Bobbye R. Walters will be remembered with love and gratitude for her faithful spirit, her hardworking life, and the warmth she shared with those around her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
