Bura Claiborne Stringer, 74 of Bay Springs, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 371 Hwy. 18 Bay Springs, with funeral services immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow in New Home Baptist Cemetery in Bay Springs.

Mr. Stringer was a lifelong resident of Smith County, graduating high school at Taylorsville. He was a longtime manager of Denson's Service Station at Bay Springs, and a maintenance superintendent for the city of Bay Springs. He also served the people of the community as a funeral director with Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs. He was a member and served as a deacon of First Baptist Church, Bay Springs, where he attended as long as his health permitted. He loved to garden and tend cattle. He was a avid supporter of Mississippi State Baseball, attending the South Eastern Conference post season tournaments, twice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B. B. and Myra Blackwell Stringer; five brothers, George  Stringer, Lawrence Stringer, Albert  Stringer, Frank Stringer, and Robert Stringer;  two sisters, Myrtle Hodnett and Frances Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Mrs. Fredna Williams Stringer of Bay Springs;  two sons, Bura  Claiborne "Clay" Stringer, Jr. (Kathy) of Greenville, and Michael Ray Stringer (Shelley) of Brandon;  one daughter, Jenny Stringer of Bay Springs;  five grandchildren, Mitchell Stringer, Madison Stringer, Mary Stringer, Ben Stringer and Lyla Stringer; one great grandchild, Wesson Andrew Stringer; two brothers, Milton Stringer of Pearl, and Charles T. Stringer of Bay Springs; one sister, Ethelene Ainsworth of Ellisville; a host of nieces and nephews.
