Carolyn Grayson
Massey Gaines
October 9, 1936 – April 20, 2025
Carolyn Grayson Massey Gaines, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, April 20th, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and laughter that touched all who knew her.
Carolyn was adored by her husband of 28 years, John Gaines, and deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a sweet and gentle spirit, paired with a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest day. You could always count on her for a good giggle, and no one left her presence without a hug and a heartfelt "I love you."
She was preceded in death by her parents, O.J. and Blanche Grayson; her first husband, Jerry Massey; her beloved son, Anthony "Tony" Massey; her sisters, Joyce Clark and Edith Stringer; and her brothers, James and Billy Grayson.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John Gaines; her children, Janet Murphy (Neil), Vicki Murphy (Keith), Tom Massey (Tracey), John Massey (Vanessa), and Lisa Hennis (Chris); her stepdaughters, Becky Gaines and Frances Newell (Michael); and a sister-in-law she loved as her own sister and dearest friend, Rosamond Grayson. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her endless joy and pride.
Carolyn was one of the strongest people we have ever known. Though life brought her great sorrow and loss, she carried it with grace, rarely complaining or letting others know her pain. She loved others more than herself and lived as a true example of the Proverbs 31 woman—faithful, selfless, wise, and kind.
Her presence in our lives was a gift, and her memory will remain a treasured part of us all.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Colonial Chapel of Bay Springs at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Louin Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 11:00 AM until service time.
