Obituary

Caron S. Thornton, 91, of Bay Springs, Mississippi, died Friday February 28,2020 at his home. He was born September 28, 1928, in Union, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, from 12:00PM until 2:00PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs, Mississippi. Graveside services will be held immediately following visitation hours at the Bay Springs City Cemetery. Bro. Dale Townsend will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Upon completion of high school, Caron attended East Mississippi Community College in Decatur for two years. He then attended State Forest Ranger School , in affiliation with the University of Florida, in Lake City, Florida. His love of the land and forest led him to a career as a registered forester with Masonite Corporation. He left Masonite to start his own forestry business in Bay Sprigs. He professionally managed his own timberland as well as those of others. He was a respected leader in the forest industry and mentor to many who worked with him.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Doris Hemphill Thornton, Renee Sims Thornton, parents, Henry C. and Eula Milling Thornton, son, J. B. Sims, grandson, William Houston Garrison, sisters, Audrey Ricks, Grace Gilmore, and son-in-law, Hansel Anthony Jones.

Survivors include his daughters, Janet Sims Jones, Jennifer Sims Prosser(Sidney), Sylvia Thornton Garrison(David), son Dale Thornton(Tracey), 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, sister, Frances Caffey, brother, Kinoth Thornton(Ella Mae), brother-in-law, George Gilmore, and a host of nieces and nephews

Pall bearers will be Shane Boyd, Billy Ishee, Ricky Ruffin, Patrick Sims, Dwane Stringer, and Craig Youngblood.

The family is gratefully appreciative of the special friendship of the Flavio Marcial family and the excellent home care given to him by Gaye Simmons, Laura McKinley, Carla Baughman, Maria Lopez, Pearl Jones, and Willie Mae Walton.

Memorials can be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church.
