Obituary

Christopher Dwight Myers, 50, of Bay Springs, Mississippi, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 4, 2026, surrounded by the love he so faithfully gave to others. Born on May 31, 1975, in Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany, Chris lived a life marked by unwavering faith, sacrificial love, and devoted service to God and people. Since answering the call to gospel ministry in 1998, Chris served not by compulsion or for personal gain, but willingly and wholeheartedly for love’s sake. His faithful ministry touched countless lives across Mississippi, including his years as a youth minister at First Baptist Church of Shady Grove in Laurel, at Temple Baptist Church in McComb, and at Lake Como Baptist and First Baptist Churches in Bay Springs. He later served as pastor of Palestine Baptist Church in Montrose and, most recently, had joyfully served the congregation of Bethany Baptist Church in Bay Springs for more than two years. In January 2026, under Chris’s leadership, the people of Bethany Baptist founded Finding Freedom, a faith-based recovery ministry dedicated to helping individuals find lasting freedom in Christ — a final and fitting testament to his heart for the broken and the searching. Chris’s witness for Christ extended well beyond the pulpit. For 21 years, he served as a welder at Hol-Mac Corporation in Bay Springs, where he daily lived out the biblical charge from Colossians 3:23–24: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Coworkers and managers alike bore testimony to his quiet, consistent influence — a man who brought the character of Christ into every corner of his workplace. Yet Chris would be the first to say that his greatest calling was the one he lived at home. He loved his wife Suzy with a tender and sacrificial devotion, calling her every day during his break and placing her preferences above his own without hesitation. His love for his children Anna and Andrew was equally intentional. He believed wholeheartedly that children spell love as T-I-M-E, and he gave it abundantly. Whether it was spending the day cheering Anna through a karate tournament, proudly clapping at one of her theatrical productions, quietly sitting beside Andrew in a deer blind, or lifting weights with him at the gym, Chris was not only present but productively used shared moments to speak truth and wisdom into their lives. To know Chris Myers was to witness a man who understood that, apart from his relationship to God, the most sacred ground a husband and father walks is the ground between him and his wife and children. Chris is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Suzy Myers; his daughter, Anna Myers Armstrong (Daniel) of Northport, AL; his son, Andrew Myers; in-laws, Sam and Karen Sumrall, Julie and Paul Spurlin, and Mandy and Jonathan Russell of Milton, FL; nephew Jake Russell (Anna) of Brandon, MS; and niece Cameron Russell of Milton, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Jenkins Sr. and Mary Lee Steed. Services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Bay Springs. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at noon. Burial will take place at Bay Springs Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Dr. Jonathan Russell and Dr. Paul Spurlin, with piano music provided by Mrs. Joyce Stringer. Pallbearers will be Daniel Armstrong, Tommy Boyd, Xander Eubanks, Andrew Myers, Gil Odom, and Jody White; Virgil Boleware, David Phillips, and Wayne Stringer will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Finding Freedom, a ministry of Bethany Baptist Church, with contributions mailed to 1433 CR 21 Stringer, MS 39481. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
