With his daughters by his side, Mr. Clifford David Thornton, age 88, of Bay Springs, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Jasper County Nursing Home. He was born May 12, 1936 in Sylvarena, MS.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Bay Springs City Cemetery on Hwy 18. Pastor Gary Shows of Hattiesburg will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements.
David was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who loved people dearly. Above all else he loved Jesus, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Bay Springs Baptist Church and later at Lake Como Baptist Church. Upon retirement and prior to facing health issues, David and his wife moved to Hattiesburg, MS and were members at Temple Baptist Church. He had a great love and respect for our country, proudly serving in the US Navy for 4 years.
David is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Truman McKenzie Thornton; parents Stone Devers and Euna Madge Thornton; three sister-in-laws, Mona Thornton, Marcia Thornton and Jean Sims; two brother-in-laws, Mack Stegall and Earl Thornton and one nephew, Lane Chisholm.
Survivors include his daughters, Kelly Thornton and Amy Thornton, both of Hattiesburg; two brothers, Rueben Thornton of Pearl and Fred Thornton of Gulfport and one sister, Margie Thames of Laurel along with many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
