Obituary

Curtis Barr Alexander passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Saturday, November 5, 2016.


Curtis was born to Bessie and Chandler Barr Alexander in Montrose, Mississippi, on November 12, 1927.


Curtis graduated from the University of Mississippi with a double major in Chemistry and German. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduating from Ole Miss, he served as deputy sheriff of Jasper County under his brother, Sheriff Robert "Bob" Alexander. He served the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict.


He owned Alexander Motor Company for 25 years and was past President of the Mississippi Automobile Dealers Association and served on the Board of Directors of the National Automobile Dealers Association. He was an active landowner and tree farmer.


He was a ruling elder of the Bay Springs Presbyterian Church for over thirty years. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and lifelong rule breaker. He watched his last Ole Miss game on Saturday and was alert until the end of his journey.


He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert Alexander, Maureen Rose, Sue Smith, Imogene Mosley, his first wife Lillous Eddleman Alexander and his son-in-law, Bobby Shoemaker. His wife, Kathleen Alexander passed away on July 21, 2016.


He is survived by his daughter, Lillous Faye Shoemaker, grandchildren, Megan Bensley (Sean), Lillous Ann Shoemaker, Barr Shoemaker (Genevieve), Joanna Kairdolf (Wayne), great grandchildren, Brighton Bensley, Campbell Bensley, Hart Alexander Bensley, Noah Grayson, Wells Grayson, Allister Kairdolf, and Avrum Kairdolf, and many nieces.


Visitation will be held at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. His service will be held at the Bay Springs Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Bay Springs Cemetery.
