Cy Franklin
Fail
April 15, 1961 – August 30, 2021
Cy Franklin Fail was a kind and humble soul who left this earth for a better life on Monday, August 30, 2021, following a battle with the dreaded cancer. A lover of life and his family, Cy never wasted an opportunity to have a good time. In his younger years, Cy was an outstanding athlete in high school football and track before moving on to Louisiana Tech University. After college, he married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Pamela (Pam) Ruffin. They had three children, and he was a wonderful father to each: Nicholas Franklin (Nick), his namesake; Charles Cyrus (Charley), his best buddy; and Julie Elizabeth, his "puddin'."
Cy, easygoing and people pleasing, was a skilled and avid boat captain who loved spending time on the water throughout his life. He also grew fond of hunting and spent many hours in the woods with Charley and his brother-in-law, Ricky Ruffin. Cy had a natural knack for handiness and could repair anything from a car to an air conditioner—a trait he shared with his late father, Charles Fail. He worked alongside his dad at the telephone company for many years, beginning with installing telephones and climbing poles and eventually becoming an executive.
He could grill a steak and share in a toast to enjoy life with the best of them and never passed on an opportunity to share his culinary talents with friends and family—especially during the holidays with his famous fried turkeys. A comfort in his final years, he was devoted to his faith and was a lifelong member of Bay Springs Baptist Church, where he and Pam met and later married.
Cy was the middle child born to Charles (Charlie) and Dorothea (Dot) Fail on April 15, 1961. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Shay Cooper Fail, and his father. He is survived by his devoted companion of nearly 50 years (dating + marriage), Pam; his mother, Dot; his sister, Donna Alexander (William); his three children: Nick, Charley, and Julie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored and will miss their "Uncle Sugar," a.k.a. "Fat Boy" or "CyBo."
Visitation will be held at Bay Springs Baptist Church under the Pavilion (43 MS Hwy 528) on September 3, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Services will begin at 11:00 am, and graveside will immediately follow at Shelby Cemetery in Stringer, MS. Pallbearers will be William Alexander, Marcus Evans, Pete Gavin, Craig Gusa, Mark Ostrander, and Ricky Ruffin.
