Dorothy Rita Bourliea McNeil Obituary Dorothy Rita Bourliea was born on May 19, 1925, to Joseph Alfred Bourliea and Lillian Adele Robicheaux Bourliea in the family home on the banks of Bayou Teche in Franklin, Louisiana. She was the third of eight children. Dorothy married Almond McNeil on February 17, 1944, in Franklin, Louisiana, and through the years, the couple were blessed with four sons. Dorothy's first job was in a sugarcane refinery; she later owned Dot's Beauty Shop in Patterson, Louisiana; worked for Northern Electric Company; resumed her salon business in Bay Springs, Mississippi; and operated a dairy farm in the Antioch community. She retired in 2008 after serving twenty years as the Election Commissioner of Jasper County.
Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including church pianist, fishing, gardening, raising fruit trees, and canning items from her garden. She was a very creative person, a published poet, and a talented musician who enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to play the piano. Dorothy was an accomplished artist as well, using many different mediums.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Lillian Bourliea, her siblings, and her husband of sixty-one years, Almond McNeil.
She is survived by four sons: Glenn Earl McNeil (Carol), Michael John McNeil (Susan), Philip Almond McNeil (Diane) and Joseph Austin McNeil (Kathy); eight grandchildren: Glenn McNeil Jr., Lisa Songy (Kirk), Kelly Parker (Jim), Lacy Deese (Kaleb), Gabe McNeil (Julie), Dr. Josh McNeil, Matt McNeil (Cortney), and Dr. Leslie McNeil Talbert (John); nineteen great grandchildren ; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend Charlotte Phillips.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Jasper General Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Dorothy during her stay with them.
Pallbearers will be Dorothy's grandsons and great-grandsons, Gabe McNeil, Kaleb Deese, Josh McNeil, Matt McNeil, Hawk Hendry and John Musgrove.
Honorary Pallbearers are Buster Charpentier, George Sanders, John Pearce, Grady James and Billy Rayner.
