Obituary

Edna Earl Sims, 85, a resident of the Lake Como community and Educator in the Bay Springs Schools passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS.   She was born on March 19 th , 1936 near Mason School in Wayne County, MS to parents Joseph Wesley Jones and Selma Norsworthy Jones who preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 26 th from 5:30 PM to 8 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs, MS.   Visitation will also be held at Bay Springs Baptist Church from 1 PM to 2 PM, Thursday, May 27 th with the funeral service starting at 2 PM at Bay Springs Baptist Church followed by a graveside service and burial in the Bay Springs Cemetery.   Colonial Chapel Funeral home of Bay Springs is in charge of the arrangements with Rev. Ed King, minister of Bay Springs Baptist Church, and Rev. Taylor Benton officiating the service.

Edna Earl Sims graduated from Clara High School in Clara, MS.   She attended Jones County Jr College, Clarke College, William Carey College and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in education.   She was a devoted member and Sunday School Teacher of Bay Springs Baptist Church.   She was a teacher in Mississippi schools for 38 years having taught children as an elementary teacher and Title 1 Program coordinator.   She taught at McClain, MS, Laurel, MS, Bay Springs Schools, and Sylva Bay Academy.   She was a past president of the Bay Springs Garden Club; president of the Bay Tree Garden Club; a past president of the Mississippi Association of Educators; and a past president of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's educational sorority.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Max Sims, a lifelong resident of Bay Springs, MS; brother Orville Jones (Ethel); sisters Betty Hough (Clifford), Shelby Sims (Edsel), and Linda Mosley (Herb).

She is survived by brothers Duane Jones (Glenda) of Huntington, TX and Joey Jones of Biloxi, MS; a sister Patsy Pitre of Waynesboro, MS; sons Darren Sims (Janice) of Dothan, AL and Jason Sims of Brandon, MS; daughter Leslie Sims Dean (Gary) of Saltillo, MS; Grandchildren Tyler Sims (Lillian) and Marshall Sims of Lexington, KY and Haley and Cameron Dean of Saltillo, MS; Great Grandchildren Valerie and Langdon Sims (Tyler & Lillian) of Lexington, KY as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Patrick Sims, Wyatt Moulds, Craig Tally, Tim Jones, Wesley Evans and Elton Travis.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church Youth Ministry or Senior Adult Activities Ministry.
