Ed came into this world on October 14, 1948, in Huntington, West Virginia. It was there she resided with her parents Paul and Rosalee McCloud. She was the first of six siblings to follow. Regretfully, only her brother Paul is still here with us.
Ed grew up in the mountains of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. By her reports, she had a very good childhood and even better teenage years growing up in the sixties. She often spoke of dances, sock hops, and music concerts.
She remained in Huntington until she met her future husband, Leroy Phillips. Leroy was working in West Virginia and met her as his waitress at the Ponderosa restaurant. After a short courtship and completion of his job they returned to Mississippi to be married. They were united in marriage on December 21, 1966. This union produced two children, Gina and Ronnie.
Upon arriving to Mississippi, she started one of many jobs thus bringing her to meet a lot of people and make a lot of friends. You could tell she was a very versatile and smart woman by the variety of jobs she held. She started out working at the famous Cool Dip. Later jobs included dental assistant for Dr. Mark Massey, and a position at NECO (like most of Jasper County). She also dispatched at the Jasper County Sheriff's Office for Sheriff Tom Green and dispatched for the Mississippi Highway Patrol. She then moved on to be a driver's license examiner for Mississippi Highway Patrol and retired after 25 years of service. Being the person she was, she could not stay home so she worked part-time at Bay Springs Municipal Library up until her death.
In between all these jobs, in her spare time she loved reading, planting flowers, watching her hummingbirds, and watching absolutely anything her grandchildren participated in. After many years of marriage, her and Leroy divorced but remained close to each other and family.
She faithfully attended and was a very active member of Reads Chapel United Methodist Church. It is here she worshipped the Lord and made some of the best friends of her life. This will also be her final resting place.
Ed ended her legacy after a short bout with cancer on June 4, 2023, 4:04 a.m. at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her passing was very sad to all family, but the wonderful care, concern, and compassion of the entire staff that participated in her care made a horrible situation easier to move through. Also, a special thank you to the nurses at Pro Care Home Health, Bay Springs, MS, a special bunch of nurses. Ed was loved by everyone that ever met her and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her special companion of many years, Leroy Phillips, daughter Gina Anderson, grandsons Cade Anderson (Jaycie) and Phillip Anderson. Her son Ronnie Phillips (Jennifer), granddaughter Brantlee Phillips, and grandson Brecken Phillips. Her brother Paul McCloud (Margarita) and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Ed asked donations to be made to the Sylva Bay Academy Athletic Program.
