Erma Dee Hammond Quinnelly passed away peacefully Sunday, May 15, 2022 at South Central Medical Center at the age of 101. She was born in Smith County and grew up in Louin, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lee and Ottie Lula Hammond, son Judson Quinnelly, brother George Hammond, Sisters Tura Goldblum, Margie Perkins, Juanita Gallaspy, Jackie Fava, Deloras Eason, Nadine Hammond, and Pattye Hill.
She is survived by sisters Voncile Sullivan, Yvonne Bianchi, brother John Hammond daughters Dianne Windham (Farren), Ramona Blackledge, grandson John Blackledge (Leslie), Jessica Brownlee (Tyler), Kayla Stephens (Judd), Katie Quinnelly, Great Grandchildren Lillie Greene, Layla Brownlee, Lucy Brownlee, Sawyer Blackledge, Gavin Blackledge, Jackson Welborn, Paisley Welborn, Grayson Stephens and a host of nieces and nephews.
She lived in Laurel for 30 years and moved back to Louin after retiring from Reliable Supply where she worked as bookkeeper. She taught Sunday School for most of her adult life and loved to sing in church. She never met a stranger as she always struck up a conversation with everyone she saw. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed for the public. She loved reading, knitting, quilting and especially vegetable and flower gardening.
A special and heartfelt thank you to Melissa and Nicki at ProCare Home Health, Annie Clayton, caregiver, for being so caring and special to Mama, Lillie Gavin, caregiver, for also being so caring, Dr. Mary Clawson for so many years of healthcare and kindness. Lastly, to all the nurses, aides and employees of the Jasper County Nursing Home who gave Mama such excellent care and kindness while she was a resident.
Visitation and services will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the First Baptist Church with burial at the Louin Cemetery. Brother Keith Ulmer will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Farren Windham, Tyler Brownlee, John Blackledge, Joe Blackledge, Cecil Myers and Alan Eason.
Colonial Chapel of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements.
