Haskel Lee Stringer was born Sunday, January 24, 1926 in Smith County. He passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023 at his home at the age of 97.
Funeral services will begin on at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from the New Home Baptist Church. Burial will follow in New Home Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.
A lifelong resident of Smith County, Mr. Stringer, was a 1944 graduate of Taylorsville High School, and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp, serving as a B17 tail gunner. He married Mollie Herrington on May 22, 1947. Mr. Stringer was retired from the Mississippi State Tax Commission. He was a member of New Home Baptist Church, holding membership for 81 years, serving as a deacon for 75 years, Sunday School teacher for 23 years, and church clerk for ten years. The Stringers enjoyed traveling together, visiting most of the fifty states in the union.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Mollie Herrington Stringer; daughter, Rhonda McCrory; daughter-in-law, Judy Stringer; parents, Henry Taylor and Dovie Martin Stringer; sisters, Irma Doris James (Duford), Buradell Kitrell (James) and Melva Jean Beatty (Claude); brother-in-law, Sonny Herrington; sister-in-law, Jan Hough (Eddie).
Survivors include his sons, Douglas Stringer (Mary), Keith Stringer (Debbie) and Bruce Stringer (Christy); daughters, Delwyn Savell (Charles) and Gina Pearson (Mark); son-in-law, Ronnie McCrory. grandchildren, Shan Cargile (Mandy), Lee McCrory (Jennifer), Josh Stringer (Jessica), Carrie Tucker (Terry), Chloe Neimeyer (Kenny), Chanda Walker, Tanya Stringer, Meagan Stringer, Daniel Stringer, Mollie Guess (Josh), and Carla Pearson; great grandchildren Douglas Lofton (Cassidy), Tori Tucker, Trent Tucker, Zach Walker, Alana Walker, Rebecca Gately (Logan), Luke Cargile (Samantha), Taylor Cargile, Hunter McCrory, Caroline Stringer, Cullen Stringer, Grayson Stringer, Mason Guess, Haley Robinson, and Candace Robinson; great-great grandchildren, Deacon Lofton, Darby Lofton; sister-in-law, Shelia Herrington; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:00 am until service time at New Home Baptist Church, 37 SCR 11A, Bay Springs, Mississippi 39422.
