Obituary

Howell Mitchell "Mickey" Thompson, aged 87, of Raleigh, MS, passed away on December 13, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS. Born on September 9, 1937, in Raleigh, Mississippi, to Hubert and Gladys Hester Thompson, Mickey lived a life full of dedication and service.

Mickey graduated from Raleigh High School in 1956 and ventured to west Texas and New Mexico to work in the oilfield. He later served in the Army, where he was stationed in Germany for over two years. After his military service, he worked at the CO-OP in Raleigh for eight years and retired from The Raleigh Company after 28 years of service.

He was a devoted member of Center Hill Baptist (Double Church), where he taught adult Sunday School for many years. Mickey was known for his love of hunting, raising hunting dogs, and his ability to engage in conversation with anyone he met.

Mickey is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Undean Arender Thompson; his children, Mark Thompson (Sheryl) and Angela Thompson Phillips (Brian); his grandchildren, Bo Thompson (Heather), Ryan Thompson, Joshua Thompson, David Thompson, Kassidi Phillips, and Brooke Bowen (Brandon); and his great-grandchildren, Jet Thompson, Ava Rose Thompson, Malcolm Thompson, Ada Bowen, and Liza Bowen. He is also survived by his brother, Randy Thompson, and sisters, Glenda Gilreath, Gale Walin, and Becky Sanford, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bud Thompson, and his sisters Inez Canova and Pam Gandy.

Visitation will be held on December 17, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Raleigh. Funeral services will be conducted on December 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Double Church in Raleigh, Mississippi, followed by burial in Double Church Cemetery. Rev. Brian Phillips, Judge Stan Sorey, and Rev. Mark Thompson will officiate the services.

Mickey will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. He never met a stranger and leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship.
