Obituary

Hubert E. Parks, 89, of Raleigh, MS died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at his residence in Raleigh, MS.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Raleigh with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton, MS at 2:00 PM. Dr. Keith Gordon and Dr. Jeff Myers will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Raleigh is in charge of arrangements. (601)782-4544

Mr. Parks was born Tuesday, January 11, 1927 in Walnut Grove, MS. He attended school at Beulah Hubbard and Decatur High School. He later joined the United States Army during WW II and spent 14 months in Japan.
Mr. Parks married Olivia Baucum December 16, 1949.
During his career he worked for I.C. Issacs and Co. beginning in 1950 working 8 years at the Newton Co. and 24 years at the Raleigh Co. in which he retired in 1983.
He also was a free lance photographer, served 6 months as alderman, 4 years as mayor, 4 years as municipal judge, and 10 years as election commissioner. He also owned and operated C.P. Pest Control for 16 years.
He joined the First Baptist Church of Raleigh in August 1961. He served as Youth Director, Deacon, Sunday School Director, Training Union Director, Teller, and Building and Grounds Committee.
He married Norma Welch on September 4, 1987.
He was also a Master Mason, a life time member of Junior Chamber of Commerce, member of Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Lions Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lucille Parks; brother, John R. Parks, and wife of 35 years Olivia Baucum Parks,

Survivors include his wife, Norma Parks; step-children: Denny R. Welch (Robin), J. Douglas Welch (Charlotte), Denise Welch Stephens (Bruce); and a host of granchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Ray Boykin, Mike Sheldon, J.R. Buffington, Bill Harden, Jeff Martin, Miles Butler.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the First Baptist Church of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Raleigh playground or prayer garden fund.
