Obituary

Dr. Hueston Adkins went to his home in Heaven Friday, August 3, 2018. Brother Hueston, as he was known to all member of the churches he served, left his earthly body quietly in his room at Poplar Springs Nursing Center with family by his side.

Dr. Adkins was a well-known pastor for over 50 years, serving many churches throughout that time. He served at Sylvarena Baptist Church twice, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Laurel, MS, West Ellisville Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Mendenhall, and Woodville Heights Baptist Church in Jackson. Along with these, he also served as Director of Missions for Jasper County. After retirement, he was interim pastor at several churches, including First Baptist Church, Soso, MS, and Macedonia Baptist Church in Suqualena, Mississippi.

In 1962, Hueston left his business as a Farm Bureau Insurance agent to return to school after surrendering to the ministry. Moving his wife and three young sons to Clinton, he began classes at Mississippi College while working as a bagger in a local grocery. He always believed he was to follow God's lead, regardless of the path, and God provided, leading him to Sylvarena Baptist Church less than two months after the move. He was the ultimate pastor, being there for members and families in need. Weddings, funerals, surgeries, births, or other times of crisis, he and his wife, Amie, traveled to wherever he could to render comfort regardless of time or distance.

Hueston was a graduate of Mississippi College and obtained both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was active in the Southern and Mississippi Baptist Conventions, serving on various committees over the years.

Papaw, as he was known to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, delighted in his family. He was never happier than when all were together just enjoying one another.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Elizabeth Holifield Adkins, and wife of 64 years, Amie Sue Hammonds Adkins; his parents, Joseph Loyd Adkins and Nancy Wade Adkins. Also, his sisters Mary McKinley and Agnes Moore; brother, Jerald Adkins, and great grandson, Asher Holt.

He is survived by his sons, Landry Hueston Adkins of Meridian, Jesse Tullos Adkins and Joseph Bradford Adkins of Houston, TX; his daughters-in-law whom he considered more as his daughters, Fay Adkins, Danna Adkins, and Kim Adkins; his five grandchildren, Jessica Adkins Holt(Jason) of Houston, TX, Justin Tullos Adkins of Dallas, TX, Kristen Adkins Sparks (Bradley) of Pensacola, FL, Brianna Charlee Adkins of Asheville, NC, Chase Bradford Adkins of Houston, TX; his great grandchildren Harley Blair and Berkeley Page Sparks of Pensacola, FL and his sister, Willa Dean Edwards, Soso, MS.
