Obituary

Jacqueline Gilbert Hord, 96 of Raleigh, MS passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Friday, August 27, 1926 in Smith County, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Raleigh United Methodist Church, with funeral services immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow in North Raleigh Cemetery in Raleigh, Mississippi.  Rev. Tony McDonald will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Raleigh is in charge of arrangements (601)764-2181 .

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas George Hord; parents, Oscar Thomas Gilbert, Sr. and Myrtis Weems Gilbert; sisters, Ouida Gilbert Tadlock and MarBeth Gilbert Albright; great grandson, Douglas Mack Hord; brothers-in-law, Luther David Tadlock and Major General Jack A. Albright and sister-in-law, Bonnie Gilbert.

Jacqueline has been a member of Raleigh United Methodist since she was 22 years old.
Jacqueline had a love for cats, flowers, and enjoyed embroidery in her free time.
Jacqueline played Basketball while at Lake High School, where she later graduated in 1944.  She continued her education at Jones County Junior College, before going to The University of Southern Mississippi until her Junior year.  Jacqueline stayed out of college for one year, while she taught at Pineville school.  Jacqueline then returned to USM for her Senior year where she earned a degree in education.  In 1948, the year she graduated from USM, she also married the love of her life, Douglas George Hord.

Jacqueline then taught for one year at Raleigh, where she was also the basketball coach.  In
November of 1949, Jacqueline and Douglas welcomed their first son, Stanley Thyson Hord. Jacqueline then took more classes at MSCW and LSU.  In December of 1950, the loving couple welcomed their last son, Hubert Newell Hord.  Jacqueline then returned to work in 1952 for the Smith County Department of Human Services.  Jacqueline retired after 40 years of service in 1992.

Jacqueline loved her family and friends dearly.  "Granny", as all her beloved family called her will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her sons, Stanley Thyson Hord (Linda) and Hubert Newell Hord (Dottie); grandchildren, Angela Kay Hord-Hammons and Bradley Thyson Hord (January);  brothers, Oscar Thomas "Tommy"  Gilbert, Jr. (Frosty) and Weems Gilbert;  great grandchildren, Sandrea Michelle Hord, Matthew Tristan Scott, Madison Jade Fernald (Brandon), Trinity Michell Hammons, Haley Nicole Hammons, Jayci Lavon Rayner, and Nila Kourtnee Hough; great-great grandchildren Oaklynn Montana Fernald and Katalina Aurora Fernald and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great-great niece.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Thyson Hord, Chris Pruitt, Randall Hutchinson Jr., and Lee Herring.
