James Junior "Spooney" Wood, 86, of Bay Springs, Mississippi, passed away to be with the Lord, Monday, July 26, 2021, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi. He was born Saturday, May 4, 1935, in Bay Springs, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Bethany Baptist Church. Graveside Services will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Darrell Craft will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. (601) 764-2181

James who was known by most everyone as "Spooney", loved gardening, watching wrestling, outdoor activities, which would include Saturday and Sunday golf cart rides. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and loved going to church. Spooney cherished time spent with his family and two favorite dogs, Jack and Jill.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Yarbrough Wood; his parents, James and Thelma Wood; his sister, Iva Grace Ishee.

Survivors include his children, Wayne Wimberley (Kathy), Kathy Rayner (Jeff), Nancy Wimberley Myrick, Evelyn Wood Sykes, and Leonard Wood (Angela); 12 grandchildren, Jessica Wimberley, Rodney Jenkins, Schinel Murphy, Graylan Rayner, Donna Trim, Shane Myrick, Whitney Faulkner, Audra Brown, Victoria Newcomer, Jammie Sykes, Nikki Wood Welborn, and Laken Wood Park; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Ratcliff, Alma Jean Williams, Brenda Carter, and Ynell Williams Carr.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Welborn, Seung Park, Shane Myrick, Jammie Sykes, Able Williams, and Graylan Rayner.
