Jimmy D. Thornton, 91 of Louin, MS passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Jasper General Hospital.   He was born Saturday, January 23, 1932 in Laurel, Mississippi.

A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00 am at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Louin, MS.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements, (601) 764-2181.

Mr. Jimmy retired out of the United States Marine Corp as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after 39 years of service and also retired from Royal Dutch Shell Company after 26 years of employment.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ulmer Thornton; mother, Ida Warren Thornton; and brother, Douglas Thornton.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Onita Thornton; sons, Nathan L. Thornton (Karen) and J. Nelson Thornton; grandchildren, Isaac Thornton, Cameron Thornton (Keri) and Samantha Bryson (Allan); and 6 great-grandchildren.
