Joanna Hendry Buchanan, 61, of Bay Springs, MS passed away Monday, February 21, 2023 at Jasper General Nursing Home in Bay Springs, MS.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Providence Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 290 CR 10, Stringer, MS 39481, with Elder Sammy Odom officiating.

Joanna was born July 21, 1961 in Laurel, Mississippi to Gwyn and Sandra Hendry.  She is survived by her brother, Douglas (Doug) W. Hendry of Bay Springs, MS; niece, Kasey Hendry Slade of Waveland, MS; nephew, Dalton Hendry of Bay Springs, MS; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Buchanan; father, Gwyn Hendry; and mother, Sandra Myrick Hendry.

Joanna attended and graduated from Sylva Bay Academy in Bay Springs, MS.  She went on to obtain her bachelor's degree from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS.  While at "The W", Joanna was a proud member of the Highlander Social Club, a BlackLister #4 and the unrivaled life of the party on every occasion.  Jo's college friends became her extended family, and she shared a lifetime of laughter with all of her sisters in The Long Blue Line.
