Obituary

Joseph Walker "Jake" Holder
January 31, 1933 – October 13, 2024)

On Tuesday, January 31, 1933, Joseph Walker "Jake" Holder was born to Burnice and Mary Alice Brown Holder in Ted, Mississippi.  Burnice and Alice had four children and even though Jake was not the baby of the bunch, he was spoiled by his parents and three sisters.

After graduation from Sylvarena High School in 1952, he was drafted into the military.  He then married his high school sweetheart Patti Joan James Holder in 1954.  After returning home from the military, Jake continued his education at Jones County Junior College while being employed at Masonite Corp. in Laurel, Mississippi for forty years.  Jake retired from Masonite in 1996 from the Coating Department.  Jake was a hard worker, he loved his family, and he was known throughout the community.  But most of all his love for the Lord and Savior was priceless and without Him he would have nothing.

After retiring, Jake raised cattle, farmed, and loved to have a beautiful garden (especially tomatoes).  He loved to go and watch his grandson's play ball.  Jake was an active member of Ted Baptist Church from childhood until his illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Patti Joan James Holder; grandson, John Cody Stringer; his parents Burnice B. and Alice Brown Holder; and sisters, Peggy Holder Lowe, Bernice Holder Cook, and Doris Holder Thomas.

Survivors include his one son, Doug Holder of Louin, Mississippi; one daughter, Susan Holder Stringer (Timmy) of Louin, Mississippi; one grandson, Douglas Dakota Stringer (Brianna) of Louin, Mississippi; one great-granddaughter, Adelaide Everly Stringer of Louin, Mississippi; and a host of other family members and friends.
