Obituary

Katie Mae Day Rayner, 92, passed away peacefully March 25, 2021, at her home in Bay Springs, Mississippi, where she had been a hospice patient and was cared for by her loving children.

She was born on May 3, 1928, in Hurricane Creek, Alabama and lived in Alabama throughout her childhood until she met her husband of 65 years, Clinton (Bud) Rayner and moved to Bay Springs where her husband lived and worked.

She was a caring wife and mother and through the early years of her marriage traveled to numerous states with her husband as he pursued his career as a bridge builder supervisor and she concentrated on loving and raising her five children.  She cherished this as her family was the most important part of her life.  She and her husband eventually retired and moved back to Bay Springs permanently where she enjoyed her hobbies of sewing, writing poetry and spending time with her family.

She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and served as youth Sunday school teacher for several years.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton M. (Bud) Rayner, her mother, Irene Kelley, her father, Coley A. Day, her brother, James A. Day, her sister, Sadie Maxey, her grandson, Ricky Sullivan, granddaughter, Stephanie Boleware, great grandson, Casey Ray Waites and two sons in law, John L Sullivan and Windell Ray Tripp.

She is survived by her children, son, Clint Rayner, Jr  (Lin) of Milton, Florida, son, Howard Rayner of Bay Springs, daughter, Kathy Tripp of Bay Springs, son, Danny A. Rayner (Wendy) of Laurel, MS, and daughter Deborah K. Boleware  (Virgil) of Bay Springs, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandsons, Shawn Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Cody Rayner, Daniel Pate, Bradley Stephens, Matthew Sullivan and Jacob Sullivan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs, Mississippi. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs and the Burial will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Eddie Brady will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. (601) 764-2181
