Obituary

Mr. Larry Hancock, age 75, of Stringer, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving and supportive family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 6:30 pm at Liberty Baptist Cemetery at Stringer. Burial will follow the graveside service under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs. Bro. Allen McCord will officiate.

Mr. Hancock was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and retired millwright employed with Georgia Pacific. He was a Christian by faith and a member of Edon Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. Gardening was a favorite past time and he loved to share his vegetables with the neighbors. He looked forward to his retirement and enjoyed it by welding in his shop, and building and fixing things for others. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Vallie Ainsworth Hancock; brothers, Cecil Hancock, S.V. Hancock and J.W. Hancock; sisters, Gertrude Moore, Wilma Coreen Sumrall and Ruby Ainsworth; his mother-in-law, Helen Hosey.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Hosey Hancock of Stringer; son, Tony Hancock (Gina) of Stringer; daughter, Heather Pierce (Kevin) of Laurel;  sister, Dorothy Lampkin of Laurel; one grandson, Dalton Lapeyrouse and one granddaughter, Mikyla Hancock; his father-in-law, Jack Hosey.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Pierce, Dalton Lapeyrouse, Kim Breland, Kenneth Bryant, Daniel Williams, and Douglas Ainsworth.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Hosey, Jake Hosey and George Larry Moore.

Special music will be performed by Marylin Garner.
