Lennie Sue Johnson Thornton, 87 of Raleigh, Mississippi passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at her daughter's home in Bailey, Mississippi. She was born Saturday, May 18, 1935, in Pineville, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home at 219 Sylvarena Ave, Raleigh, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in High Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Raleigh, Mississippi. Bro. Glen Hayman and Chris Thornton will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mr. Josh Hawkins. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Raleigh is in charge of arrangements. (601) 764-2181
Mrs. Sue was a member of High Hill Baptist Church in Raleigh, Mississippi. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She enjoyed going to church, working in the flower beds, and most of all babysitting her grandkids. She will be greatly missed by all of her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. "Went" Thornton; daughters, Frankie Thornton, Goldie Thornton Davis, and Jackie Thornton Henderson; great-grandson, Thomas David Russell; father, Grady Johnson; mother, Zurah Smith Johnson; brothers, W.L. Johnson, Earl Johnson and Douglas Johnson; and sisters, Ruby Johnson Smith, Lillian Johnson Coulter and Ethel Johnson Thornton.
Survivors include her one son, Mac Thornton (Monica) of Raleigh, MS; two daughters, Tammy McKay of Bailey, MS and Emily Gonzalez (Jose) of Jackson, MS; twelve grandchildren, Chris Thornton (Delana) of Raleigh, MS, Rene Thornton Sumrall (Scott) of Raleigh, MS, Anthony Davis (Seazie) of Raleigh, MS, Chasity Ainsworth (BJ) of Raleigh, MS, Courtney Henderson Powell of Raleigh, MS, Lindsey Thornton of Bay Springs, MS, Landon Rhodes of Raleigh, MS, Miakoda Rhodes of Raleigh, MS, Ashley Waggoner of Raleigh, MS, Morgan Waggoner of Raleigh, MS, Kodi McKay of Bailey, MS, and Brice Thornton (Amanda) of Jackson, MS; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Fannie Grace Johnson Boyd of Newton, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chris Thornton, Michael Thornton, Justin Thornton, Brice Thornton, Kodi McKay, and J.C. Powell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Will Maas.
