Obituary

Lovard Lee (Hollis) Duckworth was born to L.C. and Maggie Duckworth on December 3, 1939 and departed this earth on February 24, 2023.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 beginning at 10:00 am at Sylvarena Baptist Church with the service to follow at 11:00 am. Reverend Rusty Stockman will officiate the service. Mrs. Pat Luscomb will serve as the pianist. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Jayne Walters Duckworth, one son Frank C. Duckworth and daughter in law Janis of Canton GA. One granddaughter Shelby Norman of Roswell, GA. One step daughter Beth Burge (Greg) of Petal, MS., Three step grandchildren; Daphe Smith (Wayne), Tyler Burge, Rebecca O'Steen (Travis) and great grandchildren all of Petal, MS. One sister Margaret Ainsworth (Bobby), one sister-in-law Glenda Duckworth and a host of nieces and nephews.

Hollis was preceded in death by his first wife and Mother of his children Sandra Callahan Duckworth, one daughter; Jeana Wyatt, one sister; Dorence Evans and a brother Frank Duckworth.

Hollis was raised in the Powers Community of Jones County. He attended Ellisville High School. After school he served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Marines and remained a proud Marine all his life. He spent his working years as a Construction Superintendent in New Orleans, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

He raised his family in Pearl River, LA and was active in the local Baptist Church and was a coach for the Boys and Girls Baseball. He enjoyed coon hunting and belonging to a hunting club. He wrote an article on hunting that was published in the club magazine.

Hollis was an avid reader all his life and was known to skip school and go to the library to read. He loved the outdoors and nature and spent many happy days hunting, fishing, camping and traveling to see the wonders of nature in our Country.

After retiring Hollis moved back to the family farm in Sylvarena. There he continued to enjoy nature and succeeded as a gardener. He loved to grow food for friends and family. He was also a cook. He was known for a few super recipes.

Hollis was an active member of Sylvarena Baptist Church and lived his life trusting Jesus Christ as his Savior and looking forward to eternal life as Jesus has promised to all who trust him. His favorite Bible Verse was John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. That who so ever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Pallbearers will be Copper Langley, Zan Langley, Josh Duckworth, Fynn Duckworth, Chris Wyatt and Jim Ainsworth.
