Maegan Linn
Riley
October 27, 1987 – August 23, 2022
Maegan Linn Riley, 34, of Bay Springs, Mississippi passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, after a lengthy battle with leukemia.
Maegan was born on October 27, 1987, to Kenneth Riley and Shelby Grant Riley, both of whom predeceased her. Maegan was adopted by her stepmother, Kimberly Riley Cook, just before her dad's death.
Maegan was a 2006 graduate of Stringer High School. She attended Jones College. She later became a certified nurse assistant and spent time working as a travel CNA and worked at local nursing homes. She loved her patients and always desired to be able to return to work after her diagnosis.
Maegan was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Maegan loved going on "Campers on Mission" trips with her Granny and Papaw Riley. She made many lifelong friends on those trips and attending all the churches that her Papaw Riley pastored over the years.
Maegan faced her diagnosis with such faith and courage. She loved social media and used that platform to share her faith in Jesus and encourage others. She never met a stranger and most she claimed kin too. She wanted everyone to know that she loved them but most of all she wanted people to know that Jesus loves them. Maegan was unashamed of the gospel and testified of His love until the end.
Maegan is survived by her adopted mother, Kimberly Riley Cook of Stringer (Lonnie); grandmothers, Mary Ann Riley of Bay Springs and Sarah Stringer of Stringer; brother, Jody Pierce (Shahari) of Montgomery AL; sister, Miranda Pierce of Lumberton; uncles, John Riley of Soso; Shane Grant of Collins; Jeff Stringer of Laurel; aunts, Paulette Riley of Stringer; Marsha Stringer of Byram; Lisa Shelby (Russ) of Taylorsville; and Hope James (Steve) of Stringer; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and also special friends, Sharon Thornton and family; and William Edward Lewis; and her beloved dog, Al.
Maegan is predeceased by her father, Kenneth Riley; mother, Shelby Grant Riley; paternal grandfather, Bro. Bill Riley; maternal grandparents, Woodrow and Ernestine Grant; and uncle, Carl Grant.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs with visitation from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm with the service to follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Bros. Michael Warren, Mike Anderson and Tony Chancellor will officiate. Daniel Lee will provide special music. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens, Moss, MS.
Special thank you to "Aunt Gail" Baker Stone and Aunt Paulette Riley for giving so much of their time to taking care of Maegan in her last months; to all the SCRMC Comfort Care hospice nurses and staff who took such great care of Maegan and for making one of her last wishes come true by hosting her own special Masquerade Prom; to her friend, Megan Teneycke for making Maegan's wish to meet Minnie Mouse come true by taking her to Disney World; and to Bro. Mike and Peggy Anderson and Bro. Michael and Toni Warren for always being just a phone call away; and to her "Mama Sharon" Thornton for all that you did for Maegan over the past few years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 407 Orchard Park # 1C, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
