Obituary

Mrs. Maggie Jerld Gregory Montgomery entered the presence of her Lord on Friday, May 1, 2026 at her home. She was the youngest of eight children of Ferman R. Gregory, Sr. and Maggie Eliza McNeil Gregory.

She lived in the Antioch community of Jasper County all of her life and was a faithful, longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; her precious husband of 72 years, Jack Montgomery; her beloved son, Anthony Montgomery; her dear son-in-law, Charlie D. “Chuck” Howell; four sisters, Ruth Green, Lucille Evans, Maudie Rivers and infant Olean Gregory; and three brothers, Haskell Gregory, Ferman Gregory, Jr., and S.D. Gregory. She had a special fur baby, Polly, for 18 years.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Brenda Montgomery Howell of Stateville, NC; her daughter-in-law, Denise Montgomery of Owens Cross Roads, AL; three grandsons, Ryan Howell (wife, Melony), Tim Howell, and Dustin Howell (wife, Crystal); and one granddaughter, Nina Montgomery Weissinger (husband, Nathan), and six great-grandchildren, Austin Howell, Kaylee Howell, Hannah Howell, Hazle Weissinger, Paisley Weissinger, and Kennedy Weissinger.

Mrs. Maggie loved being outside and was happiest when she had her hands in the soil, working to grow vegetables and flowers. Cooking for her family and friends was a delight to her, especially when she could include vegetables she picked from her own garden.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Antioch Baptist Church on Highway 18 East of Bay Springs. Following visitation, Pastor Eddie Brady will preside at the memorial service beginning at 11:00 am at the church. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ryan, Tim and Dustin Howell, Arrington Rhett, Kevin Parker, Jonathan Pippen, Brett Graham and Derrick York.

The family is grateful to Lindsey Munn for the care and faithful devotion given to Mrs. Maggie during the last year.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Maggie requested that a memorial donation be made to one of the following: Happy Health Pet Adoption, P.O. Box 825, Bay Springs, MS 39422 or Friends of Children’s Hospital, 200 Park Circle Dr., Suite 2A, Flowood, MS 39232.
