Margie D. Lewis Henderson Simmons was born to Joe and Eula Lewis on June 13, 1921, in Pineville, Mississippi. She passed away at the age of 96, on January 4, 2018 at Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe, Louisiana.
She was proceeded in death by her husbands, Truitte Henderson and Virgil Simmons; daughter Elnora Henderson; parents Isaac Joseph Lewis and Eula Shirley Lewis; siblings Fred Lewis, Bobby Joe Lewis, Irene Lancaster, Elizabeth Wiggins, Betty Lancaster, and Dorothy Gilbert.
She is survived by three daughters, Patsy Patricelli (Vince) of Gulfport, Jenifer Grantham (Lavon) of Rayville, La, and Bonnie Stewart (Jerry) of Louin; nine grand-children, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grand-child. She also leaves behind many other family members.
Margie's first love was serving God. She was a prayer warrior, Bible Scholar, and while able, a faithful member of Kingston Assembly of God Church in Laurel. She enjoyed many activities with the ladies in the WM group, with sewing, cooking, and crafting for bazaars to raise money for mission projects being one of her favorites. A passion for helping and encouraging those in need, even to the point of sharing her last $5 when she needed it herself, was a way she showed her love for her Lord through her own life.
Margie was a loving mother and grandmother. It was important to her that her love for Christ and her faith and values were instilled in her family. She wanted them to appreciate all that God had provided. They were taught to grow, harvest, and prepare His bounty. She especially wanted her grandchildren to learn to fish, play with frogs, and romp in the woods. Margie made sacrifices so that her children had the advantage to excel in life.
Margie was an active member of the Louin Garden Club. She served with the Red Cross as a volunteer during many natural disasters. One of her most treasured contributions was serving as Jasper County Election Commissioner. Whenever possible, she loved traveling. Being a member of the Tri-County Dulcimer Group allowed her to minister to those in nursing homes, churches, and civic activities.
