Marilyn Carol
Dykes
October 7, 1942 – July 20, 2022
Marilyn Carol Dykes, 79, of Brandon, MS, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at her home in Brandon, MS.
Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 4:00 pm at Bay Springs Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs will be conducting the service.
Marilyn believed that life is an adventure and that there are no limits to what we can achieve when we work together. Her goal was to be the best professional while supporting the organizations that allowed her to do this. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.S. in Library Science, she completed the master's program at Georgia State University with an MLM in Library Media. Her career in education took her from Biloxi, Mississippi to Atlanta, Georgia. She managed the selection, acquisition, cataloging, circulation, and inventory of all print and non-print materials and equipment, including computers, televisions, distance learning receptions, photography, and web design. Marilyn was a natural-born trailblazer who produced multi-projector slide shows and PowerPoint presentations in the early 1990s. She was soon promoted to the webmaster for her school's first-ever website. One of the highlights of her tenure was hosting the Cobb County Media Festival. She later served as a judge in the State of Georgia School Media Festival.
Marilyn was a photography enthusiast and won many awards for her artwork. This can be seen on multiple online platforms, such as https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/marilyn-dykes and https://marilyndykesphotography.shutterfly.com . She was also passionate about genealogy and loved researching her family's history.
She was preceded in death by his parents, C.H. Dykes and Mary Frances Wilson Dykes, sister, Jeanne Dykes Aultman, and brother-in-law, William Lacey Harper.
Survivors include her sister, Jamie Dykes Harper, her niece, Alison Hinton Davis (Todd), her nephew, Wilson Carroll Harper, and her great-nephew, Carson Odom.
