Mary Janice Ethridge Windham, 90, of Bay Springs, MS went to be with her heavenly Father on October 23, 2026. She departed this life peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at home.
She was born on January 27, 1936, in Mount Olive, MS to Mark Leicester” Dick” Ethridge and Mary Kate Sharp Ethridge. She was the oldest of five siblings. Early in her life, she worked at Northern Electric Company before coming home to her life as a caregiver to her in-laws and a homemaker to her three daughters to whom she was a devoted and loving mother. Once her daughters were in high school, she eventually returned to work at the Bay Springs Library in 1981 where she worked until retirement. She was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching, singing and being a choir member. She especially loved the friendship and fellowship of her adult ladies’ Sunday school class.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed working with her hands. She could be found gardening, creating with plastic canvas, crafting, playing piano, and serving her family.
Despite her many health and physical challenges later in life, she will be remembered by many for her continuous smile, kindness, and determination.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Mary Kate Ethridge; husband of 59 years, Morris Ray Windham; brother, Nathan Ethridge; her brother-in-law and sister, George Darrell and Joyce Ishee; and her nephew, Bruce Ishee.
She is survived by three daughters: Teresa Bryan (Andrew) of Yulee, FL; Denise Pilgrim, and Laura Windham; three grandchildren: Abby Jackson (Robbe), Ryan Pilgrim, and Noah Windham; four great-grandchildren; Trey, Troy, Luke, and Crew Jackson, all of Bay Springs, MS.
She is also survived by three sisters; Elaine Mitchell (Duane) and Lillie Parker (Frank) of Sandersville, MS, and Kathy Holifield (Kenny) of Glade, MS; sister-in-law, Ann Ethridge of Sandersville, MS and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to her long-time caregiver and friend Denise Watts, and additional caregivers, Lena Pilgrim and Elsie Barnes. They would also like to extend thanks to Pro Care Home Health and Deaconess Hospice for their care.
Janice will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM until funeral service time of 11:30 AM at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery. Bro. Brad Brownlee, Bro. Steve Pouncey, and Bro. Paul Spurlin will officiate.
Honored to serve as pall bearers are Andrew Bryan, Kenny Holifield, Ryan Pilgrim, Bruce Pilgrim, Noah Windham, and Robbe Jackson.
Colonial Chapel of Bay Springs was honored to serve the Windham family during this time.
