Obituary

Mrs. Mary Ann Jernigan Nix, age 87, of Bay Springs, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at her residence in the care of her children.

Mrs. Nix was born Saturday, February 13, 1937 in Montrose, and was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. She retired from Jasper General Hospital after 52 years of service. She devoted her entire life to the care of others and was known to have "the heart of a servant." She was a faithful member of Palestine Baptist Church, was longtime church clerk and Sunday School teacher. Gardening was a favorite past time. She will be remembered for her ability to recite Bible Scriptures. In the last week of her life, a video was made of her recitation of the 23rd Psalm in its' entirety (her favorite verse) as a lasting memory for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. Jernigan, and Summit Blackwell; parents, Ralph and Irma Lee Nix; grandchild, Jeffrey Page and sister, Velma Reece Blackwell.

Survivors include her children, Teresa Ainsworth (Virgil) of Laurel, Adair Jernigan (Diane) of Brandon, Becky Ulmer (Allen) and Tammy White (Donnie), both of Bay Springs; grandchildren, Jason Page, Andrew Jernigan (Sarah), Phillip Jernigan (Robyn), Joseph Jernigan (Kelsey), Calah Bohannon (Andrew), Bryce Ulmer and Jess White; grand daughter-in-law, Randi Page; great grandchildren, Mattie Page, Carley Page, Isaiah Page, Fisher Page, Landry Page, Leah Jernigan, Drew Anna Jernigan, Mabry Jernigan, Brooklyn Jernigan, Londyn Jernigan, Cooper Jernigan, Langley Jernigan, Brycen Pittman, Foster Great-Grandson "Gabe", Jaycee Ulmer and Jayke Ulmer; sisters, Katie Mae Sanders of Sumrall and Brookie Merchant of Laurel; numerous  nieces and nephews, and her current husband, Jimmy Nix of Bay Springs.
