Mary Helen W. Thornton Born: May 24, 1933 and passed away August 21, 2022 at the Mississippi Care Center in Raleigh Mississippi.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Amanda Jane Purvis Warren and father, Sam W. Warren. She had 4 sisters, Lyla Clytee Cox, Ruby Lee McAlpin, Elma Ree Butler, Mildred Elouise Warren, 1 brother, Jimmy Mack Warren, She out lived all her siblings.
She gave birth to Donald A. Thornton in 1950, and twin boys Terry D. Thornton (deceased) and Gerry F. Thornton in 1955.
She leaves behind her two sons, Donald Thornton, Gerry Thornton and Gerry's wife Star, three grandchildren - Randi Thornton Spaulding, Dan Thornton and Angela Thornton, two step grandchildren - Kesha Butzin and Jay Bokros as well as 8 step great grandchildren and 2 step great-great grandchildren.
She was a loving mother, a grandmother, a sister and an aunt. She believed that she could do anything she set her mind to and she did. She loved her family, life and God.
Helen W. Thornton was born and raised in rural Smith County Mississippi during the post depression era. Her family farmed cotton and tobacco and life was simple and hard. Even though she was raised poor she took pride in her physical appearance and knew the importance of learning fast and a diligent work ethic.
She was quick to offer wisdom and advice and could pick up a guitar and sing and play almost any contemporary tune or hymn of her day.
Mary Helen W. Thornton enjoyed a long career in the garment industry (Raleigh Corporation) as a mentor and an industry professional.
After retirement, she traveled the world and then enjoyed the rest of her years on the family land she so loved.
While in retirement she worked part time as a hostess for the surrounding Colonial Chapel Funeral Home and was a dedicated supporter of the Angel Attic and the Baptist Association Food Pantry.
Mary Helen W. Thornton lived her life to the fullest and left a lasting memory with those who knew her and made her mark in the world …. as she lived life her way.
She will be missed and loved……. but never forgotten.
