Melissa Denman Blocker, age 53, of Louin, MS, died Monday, June 3, 2019 while at home.  She was born in McComb,  MS  on August  7, 1965, grew up in Jackson, MS and also lived in Natchez, MS in her teenage years. Her parents were Richard A. Denman and Doris Etheridge Denman of Pike County, both now deceased.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs, Mississippi. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Berean Bible Church and the Burial will follow in Berean Bible Church Cemetery. Dr. Chinyeri Onwubiko will officiate. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ken Blocker, daughters Caroline Blocker of Virginia Beach, VA,  Camille Moss (T.J.) of Louin, MS, grandson Emmitt Moss, brother Ricky Denman (Lisa) of Laurel, MS, and mother-in-love Melba Blocker of Bay Springs.

After marrying in 1986, Melissa and Ken moved to the Bay Springs area. Over the years, Melissa worked for Alexander's Hardware,  Hol-Mac Corp., Bay Springs Telephone Co., and Denson Oil. For nine years she was Director of Housekeeping at Jasper General Hospital.  Her last public job was as librarian in Bay Springs where she made many new friends and served the public earnestly. After retiring from the library in September 2018 she began her most sought-after career of providing daycare (and often-times night-care) for her grandson Emmitt, in his first 8 months.

Melissa's heart was centered around family. She enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, quilting, and recipe collecting.  She is remembered by many as having a penchant for cleaning, planning and organizing. Melissa was a member of Berean Bible Church and served as a children's teacher. Her death is a great loss for her family and community.
