Robert Michael
"Mike" Jones
December 23, 1950 – May 29, 2024
Robert Michael Jones of Bay Springs, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday May 29, 2024 at his residence surrounded by friends. He was born December 23, 1950 in Bay Springs, Mississippi.
Services for Robert Michael Jones will be Friday May 31, 2024 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs, Mississippi. Visitation will begin at 2:00 followed by a service in the chapel at 3:00 with graveside services to follow at Bay Springs Cemetery.
Mike was preceded in death by his little brother, Ellis Ray, in 1953, and his parents, Bobby Royals and Kathleen McIntosh Jones.
Michael (Mike) was a member of the Bay Springs High School Class of 1969 and was the Valedictorian of his class. He was an accomplished horseman winning many competitions and awards with his beloved, American Quarter Horse, Topal. He received a full scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi where he completed two years. Mike was a voracious reader with Ernest Hemingway being his favorite author. His love of music was extremely varied and his knowledge about artists, specific songs and their popularity was quite impressive. Mike was a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church. Mike's life was one of many challenges as most who knew him can attest.
His difficulties during his time on Earth did not destroy Mike's desire to help others. His giving heart led to many people taking advantage of Michael financially. It should be noted that Robert Michael Jones bequeathed the remainder of his estate, now valued at over $250,000, to Blair E Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. To quote Tennessee Williams: "There are no 'good' or 'bad' people. Some are a little better or a little worse, but all are activated more by misunderstanding than malice. A blindness to what is going on in each other's hearts…"
Special thanks and gratitude are extended to Lora Jane Wilson and Joanie Wilson for their loving care of Michael during his last six months on Earth. During this time, he experienced the love and care of a family, his adopted family, and for that we are forever grateful.
Pall Bearers: Joe McNeil, Kathy Myatt, Lora Jane Wilson, Joanie Wilson, Danny Dykes and Ken Deese.
