Sherrie (Lee) Childre, age 68, passed away on July 23, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 23, 1955 in Nashville, Tennessee and was a resident of Holden, Louisiana. Sherrie was a devoted wife to her husband of 48 years, Ben. A loving mother to "her girls" Alicia Childre-Callaway (James) and Wendy Childre (Samuel). She was the backbone of her family.
Sherrie is survived by her husband, daughters, sister Margie (Lee) Mitchell, brother-in-law George Childre (Faye), nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of friends who are family.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Clarence E. Sr. and Margaret Lorelle Lee, brother Randal Lee, brother Bubba Lee, sister-in-law Susan (McDonald) Lee, brother-in-law Thomas Mitchell, and countless loved ones.Some close to her called her "Momma Sherrie" because she treated everyone like they were family. She was a compassionate friend who loved sharing coffee, laughs, and love to all. She looked forward to her yearly "chicken lady" beach trips. College football was one of her favorite seasons. She loved her LSU Tigers and friendly banter with family who were "non-Tiger" fans. Her humor and smile shined brightly for all to see. To know her was to love her.
Visitation to be held at Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Bay Springs, Mississippi on Monday, July 29, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with funeral services at 12:00 PM Burial to directly follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has has asked loved ones to make donations to St. Jude Cancer Center.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the Baton Rouge General Medical Center, the ICU-B care team, and oncology palliative care services, along with Dr. Froelich and Dr. Godke.
