Obituary

Shirley Voncille Stringer Cockrell, 68, of Louin, MS died Monday, October 30, 2017 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was born Monday, September 19, 1949 in Bay Springs, MS.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 01, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 02, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs. Burial will follow in Zion Hill in Louin, MS. Rev. James Shumaker will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. (601)764-2181

Mrs. Shirley was a member of the Smith County Wagon Train. She was affectionately known as "Mom." She devoted her life to her two daughters and grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lavell Stringer and Ellene Pugh Stringer.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Cockrell, Louin, MS; daughters, Sonya Moody (Sam), Laurel, MS and Tina Gamble (John), Louin, MS; grandchildren, Nicole Moody Denham (Blake), Hollie Gamble Martin (Jimmy), Kimberly Moody, Brooklyn Gamble and Scarlette Gamble; great- grandchild, Alaina Martin; brother, Douglas Goins (Trudy), Enterprise, AL; sister, Kay Crawford, Bay Springs, MS and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James "Pinky" Monroe Knotts, Pete Terry, Nathan Stringer, Nathan Myrick, Steve McMullan, Bo Red Smith, Jason Brown and Harmon Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Denham, Jimmy Martin, Don Brown and Buddy Holder.
