Stella Marie Gotoiu Ishee died December31st, 2016 at the Jasper County Nursing Home following a gallant battle with the disease myasthenia gravis. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Sidney Ishee, her father and mother, Christopher and Sophia Gotoiu who were natives of Romania. Her sister, Cornelia Gotoiu as well as an uncle, Christopher Andras also preceded her.
Stella is survived by a son, Christopher Sidney Ishee, his wife, Carrie and a granddaughter, Teslin of New Mexico.
Stella's husband was a professor at the University of Maryland and Stella left her own mark on the entire state of Maryland. She appeared as a musician on WMAR in Baltimore in a woodwind band named "Stella's Fellas". She was a consultant in Math and Music for the Maryland Board of Education. As manager of Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra she coordinated a performance tour for the orchestra to the countries of Germany, Austria, England and Wales.
Stella served as President of the following organizations at the University of Maryland: Westminster Foundation, Student Religious Counsel, Campus Club of Faculty Wives, and Foreign Students.
When she was only 16 years of age she earned her pilot's license for a single-engine ercoupe airplane. She was also owner and operator of a children's camp and served as water safety instructor and nature instructor.
Another facet of her career was the time she spent as sales manager and food-cost comptroller for Tuller and Statler Hotels in Michigan.
At one time she was Director of Vacation Bible School and a member of the Session Board of Fort Street Presbyterian Church in Detroit where she was a member.
Graveside services and interment will be at the Union Cemetery, Bay Springs at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
