Thyra Mae Moore Sims, 98, of Bay Springs, Mississippi passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Bay Springs Nursing Home. She was born Saturday, June 6, 1925, in Quitman, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Bay Springs Baptist Church at 43 Hwy 528. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. The burial will then take place in Bay Springs City Cemetery. Bro. Ed King and Bro. Frank Harmon will officiate the services. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. Thyra began working at Bay Springs Bank in 1944 as a secretary. By the time she retired, she had worked her way up to Vice-President Trust Officer and Secretary to the Board of Directors. She enjoyed working in her garden in her spare time. She was known around town for her beautiful Christmas village display. She also loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of Bay Springs Baptist Church.  Thyra was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, George Orell Sims; parents, Isaac Phillip and Maggie Lee Martin Moore; brother, Isaac Phillip Moore Jr.; sisters, Bertha Mae Nichols and Maggie Sue McDonald.

Survivors include her sons, Keith Sims (Denise), Phillip Sims (Jean) and Dudley Sims (Jane); grandchildren, Leah Kirkland (Brandon), Chris Sims, Justin Sims (Dorian), Adam Sims (Kristi), Bryan Sims, Gail Disner (Mike) and Kristen Miller (Andy). She is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chris Sims, Justin Sims, Adam Sims, Bryan Sims, Brandon Kirkland, and Andy Miller.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Shane Boyd and Bradley Boyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that memorial contributions be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church.
