Obituary

Nicki Cargile Yeager, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called home on May 20, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born Trudie Nichols Cargile in Taylorsville, Mississippi, on July 6, 1935, Nicki was the only child born to Jim and Gertrude Nichols Cargile. A 1953 graduate of Taylorsville High School, she attended Mississippi Southern College, now the University of Southern Mississippi. She was an initiated member of the Epsilon Delta chapter of Chi Omega and was selected as the chapter’s Model Pledge in 1954.

She married Jerry Yeager on December 25, 1954, and together they raised three children, Karen, Beth, and Doug in Raleigh, Mississippi. Nicki retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 30 years in the Beinville Ranger District as the office manager. She worked for the Smith County tax collector for seven years after retiring from her role with the Forest Service.

Nicki was a member of Raleigh United Methodist Church for over 70 years and served the church in various capacities, including as a member of the church’s administrative board. She was a member of the Raleigh chapter of the Mississippi Federation of Women’s Clubs for more than 55 years, and was active in United Methodist Women and local chapters of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and Daughters of the American Revolution.

In addition to her community and civic involvement, Nicki was a devoted wife to her husband of 37 years and a proud and loving mother to her children. Her presence was a warm embrace for her grandchildren whom she adored. Her children and grandchildren will cherish her memory and the joy they were blessed to share with her in this life.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Yeager, daughter Beth Yeager Crumpton, grandson Andy Crumpton, parents Jim and Gertrude Nichols Cargile, in-laws Odell Yeager and Merle and B.J. Craft, and grandparents James and Estelle Eaton.

She is survived by her children Karen Gorham and Doug Yeager; son-in-law Keith Crumpton; four grandchildren, John Michael Gorham, Jennifer Gorham, Brooke Carkeet (Chris), and Catherine Wicker; and two great-grandsons, Bennett Wicker and Andrew Nichols Carkeet, who shares her middle name.
