Walter Carr "Carl" Massey, Jr., 81, of Bay Springs, MS, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS. Born on February 11, 1944, in Stringer, Mississippi, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Theeta Henderson Massey; his daughter, Rhonda Cheramie and husband Johnny; his son, Damion Hegwood and wife Monica; and daughter, Demarais Duckworth and husband Jeremy. He was a proud grandfather to Tiffanie Boyce and husband David, Dexter Glisson, Copeland Hill and wife Karlee, Hannah Grace Hegwood, Gabriella Hegwood, Luke Hegwood, Cooper Duckworth, Sam Duckworth, and Emma Duckworth. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren, Drew Boyce, Briggs Boyce, Vivian Hill, Adaline Hill, and Bennett Hill.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Carr Massey and Elma Lee Ishee Massey, as well as his brothers, David Massey, Jerry Massey, and Cecil Massey, and his sisters, Martha Ishee, Peggy Townsend, and Gwen Reeves.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Providence Primitive Baptist Church in Stringer. Funeral services will follow at the same location, with burial in Providence Cemetery. Bro. Mark Quarles will officiate the services. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs.

Pallbearers will include Copeland Hill, Cooper Duckworth, Sam Duckworth, Luke Hegwood, Dexter Glisson, Jeremy Townsend, and David Boyce. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Massey, Riley Townsend, and Drew Boyce.

Walter will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
