Obituary

William W. 'Bobby' Abney, 80, of Bay Springs, MS died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born Friday, May 07, 1937 in Hattiesburg, MS.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 31, 2017 from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Bay Springs United Methodist Church in Bay Springs. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bay Springs United Methodist Church in Bay Springs, MS. Burial will follow in Bay Springs City Cemetery in Bay Springs, MS. Bro. Davis Carothers and Bro. Skip Atchinson will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. (601)764-2181

One of his accomplishments he was most proud of was becoming a Eagle Scott. He continued his love and support of the Boy Scouts throughout the years. He was a member of Bay Springs United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. A 1955 graduate of Bay Springs High School and a 1959 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a degree in business. Upon graduating from USM, Bobby moved to Mobile, AL to work for the United Way. It was there he met and married his wife, Pat of 56 years. In 1962, he returned home to join his father in the family business, Abney Motor Company.

He is preceded in death by his father, William W. 'Bill' Abney, mother, Frances Glenn Abney, grandparents, Frank and Rena Glenn and R.R. and Florence Abney and one great-grandchild, Brayden Pierce.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Abney, Bay Springs, MS, daughters, Lynn Scott (Phil), Sylvarena, MS, Terri Pierce (Scott), Hattiesburg, MS, son, Charlie Abney (Elizabeth), Huntsville, AL, grandchildren, Kasey Slade (Branden), Ashley Holmbeck (Jake), Will Scott (Emily), Trisha Pierce, Alison Broome (Michael), Jessica Bourne (Adam), Caroline Abney, Anna Claire Abney, great-grandchildren, Jaxsen Slade, Bristyl Slade, Aiden Holmbeck, Ainsley Holmbeck, Easton Scott, Molly Bourne, Natalie Broome, Katlyn Broome, brothers, Glenn Abney (Nancy), Atlanta, GA, Richard Abney (Laura), Meridian, MS, and a host of extended family and his dog 'Lulu'.

Pallbearers will be Phil Scott, Scott Pierce, Will Scott, Branden Slade, Jim Sims, Jake Holmbeck.

Memorials can be made to Bay Springs United Methodist Church.
