William "Sonny" Steele passed away at Forrest General Hospital on May 31, 2022 at the age 81. He was born on February 5, 1941 in Durant, MS. Visitation will be held June 3, 2022 at Union Missionary Baptist Church of Bay Springs, MS from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Union Missionary Baptist Church at 3:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville, MS.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence "Bob" Steele and Oneida Ford Steele; his sister, Edna Wolan.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Nell McKinley Steele; his daughters; Stacey Hamilton (Ricky), and Kelley Castillon (Chris); his grandchildren, Danielle Smith (Cody) and Jeremy Castillon; his great-grandchildren, Isabel and Joanna Smith.

He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He served in the Army National Guard and he also worked in the oilfield industry in Louisiana for most of his life. Sonny was a member of the Southern Cruisers Car Club. The thing he enjoyed most in life was attending car shows in his 1966 Chevelle SS 396 of which he was the original owner winning almost 350 awards.
