June 2, 1931 – February 13, 2020
Jean passed away Thursday, February 13 at SCRMC in Laurel. She was born June 2, 1931 in Antioch Community to Tolbert and Leila Montgomery. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Sidney Ray "Pete" Leavitt, Sr.; parents; sisters, Wyvona Sumrall Harrison, Grace Montgomery Harper; brothers, George K. Montgomery, Tolbert Edwin Montgomery, and step-son, James Michael "Mike" Leavitt.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs in Bay Springs, Mississippi. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs and the burial will follow in Bay Springs City Cemetery. Bro Ed King will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. (601) 764-2181
She is survived by sons, Sidney "Ray", Jr. (Sharol), David E. Leavitt (Kim); daughter, June D. Windham (Randy); daughter-in-law, Carolyn Leavitt; sisters Aliqueen Montgomery Gibson, Lynn McLelland (Doug); sister-in-law, Ruth Holder; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
After retiring in the early 80s from a business career, Jean enjoyed traveling to spend time with family and also becoming a full-time grandmother. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, and cross-stitching. She was also an active devoted, God fearing member of Bay Springs Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Jackson Brooks, Jacob Windham, Chris McCormack, Matthew Schrimpshire, Daile Sumrall, Brian McLelland, G.K. Montgomery, and Lonnie Montgomery. Honorary Pallbearers were Daniel Leavitt, Keith Leavitt, Scotty Leavitt, Allen Mathis, Rodney Gibson, Chuck Gibson, and J.T. Mueller.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your choice of The American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association.
